The Pontine Islands are divided into two island groups: around Ponza, there are Palmarola, Zannone and Gavi; about 20 miles away is Ventotene with neighbouring Santo Stefano.
They are an ideal destination for diving enthusiasts. Crystal-clear waters and an excellent welcome make these fishing islands a popular destination for yacht charter fun. That is why choosing Fiart rent's yacht charter service is the ideal solution for spending your holiday in these breathtakingly beautiful locations with peace of mind, knowing that you can count on the professionalism of the Fiart rent team, at your side at all times.
It is 20 miles from Ischia (Punta Imperatore, west side).
Ventotene is an island where time seems to stand still. Immersed in absolute simplicity, it offers crystal-clear waters, relaxation and tranquillity. The island also bears witness to a millennial history, which began when Ulysses heard the song of the Sirens along its cliffs. It is rich in archaeological remains from the Roman era, such as the Roman harbour carved out of tufa, the fishpond and Villa Giulia, commissioned by Octavian Augustus and intended to house many women of the imperial family.
In Ventotene, don't just savour the atmosphere of the village or the beach, but delve into its territory, discovering its vegetation, lentil cultivations and panoramic views, also because the island is only 2.9 km long and therefore easy to visit.
Seabed lovers can dive accompanied by expert guides and discover the wonderful marine flora and fauna. Groups of dolphins and sperm whales can often be spotted.
Just half a mile from Ventotene, then, is the islet of Santo Stefano, completely uninhabited: it welcomes you with a not inconsiderable historical and cultural itinerary, allowing you to visit the remains of the imposing Bourbon penitentiary.
There are two ports in Ventotene: Porto Romano and Cala Rossano. As far as anchorages are concerned, it is first advisable to consult the map carefully, especially since you must respect the limits of the natural park (Riserva Ventotene e S.Stefano), which partly embraces both the island of Ventotene and the islet of Santo Stefano. When navigating around Ventotene, it is advisable not to go below the coast, especially from Punta dell'Arco to Scoglio La Nave.
A little more than 20 miles from Ventotene, it is an island of incomparable beauty, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean.
It has a large number of bays and coves, all of them beautiful and easy and safe to anchor in, since the seabed is sandy. From a nautical point of view, it is the least demanding: all you have to do is go downwind into one of the numerous bays that follow one after the other on both sides.
Another peculiarity of the beautiful Ponza is its colours, which are particularly light and give the right emphasis to the crystal-clear waters framed by white sand; therefore, try to devote the maximum number of days to your stay on the island of Ponza.
The sore point of Ponza, unfortunately, is the lack of an equipped marina for pleasure boats. The harbour of Ponza is a natural inlet completely open to the east. limited to the north by a breakwater reef. The innermost part of the harbour is almost all occupied by fishing boats and services.
The inlet of the harbour is quite wide, so you can stay in the roadstead, stay inside the harbour of Ponza and you can disembark with the tender and spend the evenings ashore.
Happy hour lovers can stay in the bay of Frontone, a beach that can only be reached by boat - the trendiest on the island. A disco bar in the middle of the beach plays lounge music throughout the day and then reaches full throttle at 6pm in the evening when the music becomes a tam-tam and the beach a real open-air disco!
The most famous and atmospheric bay on the island is Chiaja di Luna (located on the western side of the island). With good weather conditions and a full moon, it is highly recommended to spend a night at anchor in Chiaja di Luna; you will admire the spectacle of the moon's reflections on the white cliffs of the bay that plunge into a sea of various shades, ranging from blue to turquoise: a truly evocative seascape.
On the Ponente side of Ponza, in addition to Chiaja di Luna, you can also admire other beautiful coves such as: Cala dell'acqua, Cala Feola (with its natural pools). On the eastern side of the island is a succession of coves and bays, in addition to the famous Frontone Bay, you can admire: Cala Inferno, Arco Naturale, Punta Incenso.
With regard to navigation, pay attention to the Secca delle Formiche (visible by day, marked by the red sector at night) on the eastern side of the island of Ponza.
Ponza is a marvellous island that you will hardly forget, like a bewitching “siren” you will always be tempted to return whenever you find yourself sailing in the central southern Tyrrhenian Sea.
Only five miles from Ponza is the beautiful island of Palmarola, where time has stood still. In fact, only wild nature inhabits the island, which has no inhabited settlements.
Only in Cala del Porto, a picturesque inlet also known as “Cala del Francese”, you will find a bar and a restaurant (operating only during the summer), as well as some small houses carved into the rock or dug out of caves.
Palmarola's most beautiful bay is certainly Cala Brigantino, in the south of the island. There is a beautiful sequence of caves and passages that make the colours of the water particularly intense. On the north side of the island, high rock walls carved by the breakers and sculpted by the wind are reminiscent of majestic Gothic cathedrals, and for this singular resemblance they are called: The Cathedral.
