Just four miles from the Fiart Shipyards in Baia, where your exclusive Fiart rent charter holiday begins, Procida is the smallest island in the Campania archipelago, less contaminated by unbridled and luxurious tourism than nearby Ischia and Capri, and therefore even more fascinating.
With its natural beauty almost intact, the island of Procida is an ideal place for seaside holidays where you can still breathe in the true maritime atmosphere. Characterised by its fishermen's villages with their pastel-coloured houses (the most striking being that of Corricella, a true pearl of the Mediterranean, chosen as the set for the famous film “Il Postino” by Massimo Troisi), Procida will amaze you with its beautiful landscape. The wide beaches, the numerous bays and coves, the inlets scattered along the entire coastline, from a nautical point of view offer shelter from all winds.
The island has three small ports. The main port is Marina Grande, a commercial port for ferries and hydrofoils connecting Procida with Pozzuoli, Naples and Ischia. The island's new tourist port, Marina di Procida, is also located next to it.
Then there is the Marina della Corricella, inaccessible to cars and mopeds, which retains exactly the old charm of a “fishing village”. The marina is mainly used by fishing boats. One arrives ashore by tender.
Finally, Marina di Chiaiolella is a small port used for both pleasure boating and fishing.
This is the best anchorage on the island of Procida and, at night, the “Chiaia” roadstead, a wide bay open to the south, near the small port of Corricella. Nights under the stars on a boat, in complete peace of mind knowing that you can count on the reliable Fiart rent team for the duration of your holiday, because choosing Fiart rent charter means being able to count on exclusive and dedicated services.
Those who choose to spend their holidays in Procida cannot fail to visit the island of Vivara, a protected marine area since 1974 and a State nature reserve since 2002. Small, wild and uncontaminated, this splendid crescent lying on the sea is not only populated by rare essences, wild rabbits and numerous aquatic and migratory birds capable of bewitching even those less sensitive to the charms of nature, but is also home to important archaeological finds of Mycenaean origin. Its spectacular seabed, rich in marine plants, is also an attraction for all lovers of the underwater world.
The islet is what remains of a circular volcanic crater once linked to Procida by a cliff, now connected to the promontory of Santa Margherita (Marina Chiaiolella) by a bridge that can only be crossed on foot.
Despite its small size - we speak of an area of 0.38 km2, a perimeter of 3 km and a maximum height of 109 metres - the island can boast thousands of paths with lush, unspoilt vegetation. The only building on the islet, a hunting lodge dating back to 1861, has a terrace from which the entire coastline of Campania can be admired.
It is a green lung, one of the few, home to a Mediterranean maquis bursting with colours, always new with the changing seasons. The coastal development of the island is only about 3 km, but its extension appears greater, due to its orography. From the summit, the surface of the island slopes gently north and south: in particular, to the north, the point known as the “Capitello” juts out naturally into Procida.
